Hearsay
30”x30” Acrylic on Paper, 2026

I began with drawing a community of house-like forms. As the work developed it felt less like I was creating buildings and more like they were stand-ins for our personalities, like masks. Doors are ajar like parted lips; windows glow with emotive energy like eyes. The structures are gathered together, but it’s not entirely clear whether they’re comforting one another or watching and whispering with hidden intent.
A clothesline stretches across the center as a subtle nod to “airing dirty laundry.” But is it gossip, exposure or the ordinary rhythm of living in close proximity? The idea of hearsay lingers: what is heard, what is said, what is assumed; and how stories shift as they pass from one door to the next.
I’m interested in that in-between space where privacy and community overlap, where what’s inside quietly becomes outside. The layers of paint reveal and conceal at the same time, like memory or hearsay.
