The Same Boat

24”x24” Acrylic on Paper, 2026

The Same Boat is a richly layered painting that explores shared experience, quiet disconnection, and the fragile geometry of human relationships. Four small houses occupy the central composition. The top two are oriented toward the viewer, their illuminated windows suggesting exchange and recognition. The lower two turn away, signaling distance and withdrawal. Here parallel lives unfold side by side. The houses float within a dense, vibrational field of saturated color, where crimson, violet, and electric blue create a restless, emotionally charged atmosphere.

A small boat drifts below the houses, unaccompanied by its oars. All three marine elements hover rather than anchor, implying motion without certainty of direction. The vessel becomes a metaphor for collective passage; being “in the same boat” perhaps without shared vision or alignment. Below left, a hand enters the scene, delicately juggling elemental forms that evoke balance, time, and structure, suggesting the ongoing effort required to hold opposing forces; unity and separation, stability and change; in dynamic equilibrium.

The surface is built through multiple layers of mark-making, incised lines and shifting planes of color that reward prolonged viewing. Light activates the painting differently across its surface, revealing subtle transitions and hidden relationships between forms. For collectors, The Same Boat offers a compelling narrative abstraction; one that resonates emotionally while remaining open-ended. It is a contemplative work that reflects contemporary life: shared space, uneven connection, and the delicate act of navigating together through uncertain terrain.
