Prairie View Bench
21"x18" Black & White Photograph, 2024
$835
I came upon this weathered wooden farmstead bench at the edge of a wild prairie. The simple form catches warm, late-day light. The surface is mottled with lichen and time. Faint lettering across the backrest hints at a past dedication, which the elements have softened into the wood.
Nestled in interlacing wild grasses, the boundary between object and landscape is blurred. Beyond, a field of green opens outward, quiet and expansive, offering an unobstructed view that feels restful and unclaimed.
The color palette carries a gentle warmth of sunlit ochres and soft greens balanced by the muted, gray-brown tones of the wood. The composition invites pause. There is a contemplative, Zen-like presence here. The act of sitting becomes inseparable from the act of seeing.
For collectors, the photograph holds a subtle narrative of presence and passage; an object made for human use, now settling into the rhythms of the land, offering not just a seat, but a vantage into stillness.
